Gold Shipwreck Treasure Coin Collection Delivered In McDonalds Parking Lot
Manor Auctions, headquartered in Tallahassee Florida, has been commissioned to sell the Gold Shipwreck Treasure Coin collection in the October 2010 Lakeland Auction. The collection is comprised of 6 gold coins, all set in high karat gold jewelry surrounded by treasure emeralds and beautiful diamonds. The jewelry pieces include necklaces, rings, bracelets and a seal ring.
So many treasure hunters, inspired by those who have struck it rich before them, dedicate their lives to potential discovery of hoards of valuable sunken gold & silver treasure of coins, plates, jewelry, bowls, bars and the like. Life-long treasure hunter Mel Fisher is one of those who spent much of his life adventuring out in search of sunken treasure, but different than so many others, Fisher did successfully locate and secure the rights to the Spanish galleon Atocha and Santa Margarita off Key West Florida, both of which sunk in a hurricane in 1622. Fisher’s discovery and subsequent success in the courts made him an icon in the world of treasure hunters, not to mention very wealthy.
Manor looks forward to bringing these rare gold treasure coin jewelry pieces to auction. The grouping consists of coins from various wrecks, including the Atocha. All the lots will be sold unreserved to the highest bidder. The collection has been submitted to Manor Auctions numismatic catalog department, where they will be properly researched and catalogued. Once catalogued, the collection will be available for public lot viewing in Manor’s Tallahassee Auction gallery through October 3rd. Bidders can participate in the October 9th Lakeland Florida auction via floor, phone, Internet or absentee. All questions, please contact Manor Auctions at service@manorauctions.com or 850-523-3787.

Scrimshaw & Ivory Collection Commissioned To Sell
A 300 Piece 19th C. Scrimshaw & Ivory Collection Has Been Commissioned To Sell In Manor Auctions October 2010 Auction
A Florida estate has commissioned a private 300 piece Scrimshaw and Ivory collection to Manor Auctions October 2010 Lakeland Florida auction. The collection consists of fantastic 19th C. Scrimshaw and Ivory carvings of bone, teeth and tusk, including many elaborate rare English Whaling pieces. The carving spans all types of tools, boxes, presentation pieces, memorabilia, whaling ship works from around the globe and much more. Many magnificent and rare Scrimshaw works exist within the collection. This life-long collection was purchased over the last 40 years and has not seen the light of day in atleast 20 years. All things considered this is a rather intriguing and well-rounded scrimshaw and ivory collection. Scrimshaw collectors should take special note of this auction, as it is quite rare for a collection of this quality and magnitude to be offered in a single auction.
The collection of Scrimshaw and Ivory will be sold in Manor Auctions October 2010 Lakeland Florida Fine Art, Jewelry & Collectible Catalog Auction. All pieces are being offered without reserve and will sell to the highest bidder.
Scrimshaw: The artful and often elaborate handiwork created by whalers made from the byproducts of harvesting marine mammals. It is most commonly made out of the bones and teeth of sperm whales, the baleen of other whales, and the tusks of walruses. Often created to pass the time / leisure, as presentation pieces or to commemorate an occurrence.

Scrimshaw is derived from the practice of sailors on whaling ships creating common tools, where the byproducts of whales were readily available. The term originally referred to the making of these tools, only later referring to works of art created by whalers in their spare time. Whale bone was ideally suited for the task, as it is easy to work and was plentiful.
The development of scrimshaw took off after the market for whale teeth, which was sought by Chinese traders for use in the Pacific Islands (for example the Fijian market for tabua), was flooded with teeth after a narrative by an American sailor, Captain David Porter, revealed both the market and the source of the teeth. Around this time is the earliest authenticated pictorial piece of scrimshaw (1817). The tooth was inscribed with the following This is the tooth of a sperm whale that was caught near the Galapagos islands by the crew of the ship Adam [of London], and made 100 barrels of oil in the year 1817.[3]
Other sea animal ivories were also used as alternatives for rarer whale teeth. Walrus tusks, for example, may have been acquired in trade from indigenous walrus hunters.
Scrimshaw essentially was a leisure activity for whalers. Because the work of whaling was very dangerous at the best of times, whalers were unable to work at night. This gave them a great deal more free time than other sailors. A lot of scrimshaw was never signed and a great many of the pieces are anonymous. Early scrimshaw was done with crude sailing needles, and the movement of the ship, as well as the skill of the artist, produced drawings of varying levels of detail and artistry. Originally, candle black, soot or tobacco juice would have been used to bring the etched design into view. Today's artists use finer tools in various sizes, mostly borrowed from the dental industry. Some scrimshanders ink their work with more than one color, and restrained polychromed examples of this art are now popular.
Originating in an era when sperm whales were initially plentiful only to be hunted to near collapse, scrimshaw no longer is an artform utilizing an easily renewable animal resource, but one that is susceptible to contraband. Now, the Endangered Species Act and international conventions restrict the harvest and sale of ivory to try to reverse the scarcity of ivory-bearing animals.
Scrimshanders and collectors acquire legal whale teeth and marine tusks through estate sales, auctions and antique dealers. To avoid illegal ivory, collectors and artists check provenance and deal only with other established and reputable dealers.
This rare scrimshaw & ivory collection will be sold on October 9th in Manor's Lakeland Florida Fine Art, Jewelry & Collectible Auction. Bidders can participate via floor, phone, Internet & absentee. Contact Manor Auctions with any questions pertaining to the auction: 850-523-3787.

About Clark Gable:
William Clark Gable (February 1, 1901 – November 16, 1960) was an American film actor, nicknamed "The King of Hollywood" in his heyday. In 1999, the American Film Institute named Gable seventh among the greatest male stars of all time.
Gable's most famous role was Rhett Butler in the 1939 Civil War epic film Gone with the Wind, in which he starred with Vivien Leigh. His performance earned him his third nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actor; he won for It Happened One Night (1934) and was also nominated for Mutiny on the Bounty (1935). Later performances were in Run Silent, Run Deep, a submarine war film, and his final film, The Misfits (1961), which paired Gable with Marilyn Monroe in her last screen appearance.
During his long film career, Gable appeared opposite some of the most popular actresses of the time. Joan Crawford, who was his favorite actress to work with, was partnered with Gable in eight films, Myrna Loy was with him seven times, and he was paired with Jean Harlow in six productions. He also starred with Lana Turner in four features, and with Norma Shearer in three. Gable was often named the top male star in the mid-30s, and was second only to the top box-office draw of all, Shirley Temple.
The Clark Gable Golf Cart goes to auction on October 8th. Become a Manor Auction member and don't miss the opportunity to own Clark Gable's Golf Cart.

Imperial Chinese Screen Sells for $117,300
Imperial Chinese screen hits the auction block with fervor! A 2 panel red lacquered Imperial Chinese screen sold to an unnamed phone bidder in Manor Auctions September 25th Asian Antiques & Decorative Arts specialty auction.
Imperial Chinese Treasure Discovered Under The Tallahassee Consignor's Bed Realized $117,300 At Auction!
Palm Beach, Florida July 25th 2010 – Manor Auctions, auction division to Sun State Collectibles, hammered home an Imperial Chinese treasure in its Asian Decorative Arts & Antiques Auctionin Palm Beach on July 25th.
One never knows what lies beneath the bed, in the closet or buried in the attic. This statement could not ring more true for an Imperial Chinese screen discovered under the bed of a Tallahassee area home. The consignor, a local Tallahassee resident, had absolutely no clue as to the value he had slept above for the past 20 years. In fact, he cannot even recall exactly where he bought the screen – except to believe it was purchased in a lot of screens from a NY auction house years back. In which case, it would have most likely been overlooked by the world’s prominent Chinese collectors.
The discovery and marketing of this screen created global fervor in the Chinese collecting community. This screen dates back hundreds of years, into Imperial China and possesses a strong collector demand to modern day collectors. “No comparable screen of this quality or rarity has seen the light of day in recent years, so the interest was unbelievably intense from moment this screenhit the market – we knew it was going to be exciting to sell – but not $117,300 exciting” states Paul Barattini, Owner of Grace Estate Buyers - Manor Auctions TallahasseeOffice. Barattini went on to explain how the sale of this screen reinforces the importance of professional research and auction services when people have potential valuables they are uncertain about. The battle to own the screen waged on for about 5 minutes between floor, Internet and phone bidders, with an unnamed phone bidder finally winning out.
This Imperial Chinese screen most likely made its way to the states by way of Britain. When the British Expeditionary Force of 1901 was sent to lift the siege of the British Legation in Beijing and quell the Boxer Rebellion - It is known that they entered the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace. Many of the original artifacts and decorations were taken back to Britain and a good many of those found their way to the States.

About the Gibson Les Paul Goldtop Guitar
Gibson Les Paul Goldtop (1952–1958)
The 1952 Les Paul featured two P-90 single coil pickups, and a one-piece, 'trapeze'-style bridge and tailpiece, with strings that were fitted under (instead of over) a steel stop-bar. The weight and the tonal characteristics of the Les Paul were largely due to the mahogany and maple construction: maple is a hard and quite heavy wood, but was restricted to a cap over somewhat lighter mahogany, to keep weight under control.[8] In addition, the early 1952 Les Pauls were never issued serial numbers, did not have bound bodies, and are considered by some as "LP Model prototypes". However, the later 1952 Les Pauls were issued serial numbers and also came with bound bodies. Interestingly, the design scheme of some of these early models varied. For instance, some of the Les Pauls of this issue were fitted with black covered P90 pickups instead of the creme colored plastic covers that are associated with this guitar, even today. Of note, these early models, nicknamed "Goldtops", have begun to gain the interest of collectors, and subsequently, the associated nostalgic value of this instrument is increasing. In fact, re-sale prices of the vintage Les Pauls have begun to compete with already high priced, but more practical (and usable) Les Paul versions issued in later years.

A Highwaymen painting by Highwaymen artist Harold Newton highlights the many fine art pieces being sold in Manor Auction's May 1st Palm Beach Florida Jewelry, Fine Art & Collectible Auction. The Florida Highwaymen artists are a group of 26 African American artists who painted various Florida scenes from the mid-1950's through the 1980's. Most often working from their garages and other non-conventional venues, the Florida Highwaymen would then travel around Florida selling their works to individuals and businesses in an almost door to door format. Very often painted on board and making use of vivid colors, the highwaymen works became wildly popular and may be found hanging on the walls of homes, businesses, museums and collectors alike.
In 2004, the original 26 Florida Highwaymen were inducted in to the Florida Artist Hall Of Fame:
Curtis Arnett, Hezekiah Baker, Al Black, Ellis Buckner, George Buckner, Robert Butler, Mary Ann Carroll, Johnny Daniels, Willie Daniels, Rodney Demps, James, Gibson, Alfred Hair, Issac Knight, Robert L. Lewis, John Maynor, Roy McLendon, Alfonso Moran, Harold Newton, Lemuel Newton, Sam Newton, Livingston, Roberts, Willie Reagan, Cornell Smith, Charles Walker, Sylvester M. Wells, Charles Wheeler
