Automaton Mechanical Music Bird Boxes & Bird Cages | Buy, Sell, Appraise Singing Musical Birds

Automaton musical / singing bird boxes and bird cages are mechanical masterpieces which have sang charming tunes since the 19th C. Produced mostly in Europe, the automaton mechanical music bird boxes and cages were made by a variety of well known makers. Each musical piece is uniquely created by the maker and ranges in complexity, material and beauty. Manor Auctions will sell a nice variety of automaton bird boxes and cages consigned from a private Florida collection.

Automaton-Musical-Bird-CageMany of the automaton musical bird boxes and cages are made to be very decorative and ornate, possessing fine, intricate detail. Each bird is made to be life-like in functionality, with moving head, wings, tails and mouth. In come instances real birds were sometimes used. Mechanically, the birds are made to move and react perfectly with the tune or music the box / cage is set to play. Makers went to great lengths to ensure all the mechanics moved in unison to create a brilliant and pleasing finished product. This being said, the automaton musical birds may be found with multiple birds withing a single cage. In these cases, the complexities became even greater in that the birds would sing in harmony, alternating their turn singing alongside each other. The more birds present, the more complex the mechanics and the greater the effort involved.
The automaton musical bird boxes and cages would most often be made from sterling silver, silver-plate, brass and other types of workable metals. These were mostly found to be key-wound, with switches to activate the birds to sing.

This is a great opportunity for collectors to expand their collections. If you do not own a automaton bird box or cage, this is your chance to purchase one of these intriguing mechanical masterpieces. They can be enjoyed and spoke about for years to come.

Native American Sterling Silver Turquoise Jewelry & Belt Buckles | Buy, Sell, Appraise & Auction

Collection of Unique Native American Sterling Silver Turquoise Jewelry & Belt Buckles

Native-American-Sterling-Turquoise-Buckle-1Assorted collection of early and mid-20th C. Native American Sterling Silver Turquoise Belt Buckles, Squash Blossoms, Bracelets, Rings and Belts. Many of the Native American Sterling Silver pieces are signed and possess rare, hard to find, beautiful Turquoise. A majority of the Native American Sterling collection being sold was recently on loan to a New York museum for a year-long Native American History show. The collection is comprised of approximately 60 pieces in total.
Native Americans began making Sterling Silver jewelry in the mid-19th C. using primarily silver coins traded with English, French and American Trappers. The process began with a handful of Native American learning the art of metal working from Mexican silversmiths. Some of these pieces were considered family treasures to be passed through the generations, while others were made to be sold or traded. As years passed, all types of Native American Sterling Silver jewelry pieces found their way in to the marketplace. A great number of people collect and seek out better pieces and makers today to add to their collections or wear.

A Collection Of Original Peter Falk Pencil Drawings To Sell In October 2011 Auction

Actor & Artist Peter Falk - Lt. Columbo

A collection of 20 original Peter Falk pencil drawings will sell in Manor Auctions October 2011 Fine Art Catalog Auction. Many know Peter Falk as an Emmy Award winning actor who took part in more than 40 films throughout his acting career. Possibly most notably as the inquisitive and thoughtful Lt. Columbo from the television series "Columbo". A little know fact is that Peter Falk was also an accomplished artist.

On October 9th, 2011, Manor Auctions will bring 20 Original Peter Falk drawings to auction. The drawings will sell during the art session of the auction, and consist of lots 18106 - 18125. This is a fantastic opportunity for the many Peter Falk fans to purchase a rather unique and interesting piece of Peter Falk memorabilia - an Original Drawing - to enjoy and share for years to come.

Peter Falk Self-Portrait Drawing | Lot 18125
The collection of sketches presented here were created during a week-long visit to the studios of Carnegie Hall in New York City in May of 1990. The drawings, developed during multiple sessions from live models, are indicative of Peter Falk's unique talent and are typical of his figurative work in charcoal. Each individual piece is original, and has been "Authenticated by the Estate of Peter Falk" and is presented unframed.

The amazing story of how the consignor came in to owning this collection and her thoughts about Peter Falk and her responsibility to this collection of drawings:
Peter Falk Drawing - Study of a Woman | Lot 18121
"In 1987 one of my painting instructors at the Art Students League in New York referred me to Carnegie Hall for a painting studio that became available. It was a coveted opportunity because the studios were rare and one had to be recommended and reviewed before being accepted into Carnegie Hall's artistic community. In 1990 I was considering traveling for two months and there were few artists I knew who could afford to take over the space. I thought of Peter Falk, whom I had met while studying at the Art Students' League, and sent him a letter to see if he might be interested. He got back to me that while he would not be able to take it over for two months he would like the opportunity to draw from the model in Carnegie Hall. That is how, for a one week period in 1990, Peter Falk and I happened to share my painting studio and expenses for models. When he left he gave me his 18" x 24" figurative charcoal drawings, a total of 83, in two drawing pads of newsprint. I received a check with Peter Falk's signature for his portion of the models' fees. We worked together during the week of May 16th, 1990 - I know this exact time period because Peter Falk and I discussed the May 16th passing of Sammy Davis, Jr..

While working in my studio he made or received phone calls from, I believe, his agent. During the phone conversations he made notations and drawings on the newsprint pads he was using for the model. The drawings may be described as doodles and the notations include phone numbers, names and rating comparisons related to Columbo for NBC, ABC and CBS. After many years 'Columbo' was just coming back into production and rehearsal. For purposes of authenticity this is remarkably fortunate because his notations establish Peter Falk's handwriting and provide an amazing connection between the actual production of Columbo and his art.

The Studios of Carnegie Hall were an historic haven for creative talent until recently when all the artist/ tenants were forced to leave. A film released just this past May 20th titled 'Lost Bohemia' chronicles this event and delves into the many famous artists and dancers who had their studios there. I believe Peter Falk was aware of Carnegie Hall's legendary artist's studios and wanted to experience its energy. I am so fortunate to have been a part of such a magical community and environment. The background -  'provenance' -  of how the Peter Falk drawings came to be also brings to light the rich creative history of Carnegie Hall. And it includes the historic Art Students League - both further establishing Peter Falk as a fine artist.

The emergence of so many iconic entities: Peter Falk, Columbo, The Art Students League and Carnegie Hall I believe make this collection of beautiful figurative gesture drawings extraordinary and significant.

I've had the drawings for 21 years and only brought them out to show family members on the 4th of July. The reaction and opinions that followed were so enthusiastic it was overwhelming. I was urged to be pro-active about something I had never even thought of and it led me to Manor Auctions and my first conversation with the team there.

It was a privilege to work alongside Peter Falk and to bear witness to his incredible dedication and talent. I truly feel I have been entrusted by the late legendary actor and artist to do the right thing. I feel confident that Manor Auctions shares that same sentiment - and will bring Peter Falk's drawings to the public in their best light".
